First Aid Workshop

Summary

Wilderness First-aid Workshop is a one day (8 hours long) experiential learning course. The program’s goals are to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills of Wilderness Survival, Basic Concept of Wilderness Medicine and Basic Life Support (CPR included). The program also will focus on common medical problems people will encounter in the wilderness setting. This course is intended for non-medical professionals such as people going on short trips (family group) or outdoor enthusiasts. It is the ideal choice for summer camp/family trip. Parents can attend the course with kids and improve their safety skills during trips and outdoor activities. The workshop is taught by WMAI certificated instructors, who share a lot of experience of patient caring and outdoor.

Topic

Suitable Audiences:Summer camp for teens/Family group/outdoor TV Reality Show/ Short Safety training for special outdoor activi- ties. This course offers some flexibility. The PAS drills and SIM can be customized according to the group, environment and activities. This is a short, fast-paced course, making long lectures difficult. We will be focusing on practice and PAS as our main format of teaching. Check with the WMAI office or the instructor when you are booking the course. We can change some topics into those more relevant to your environment.

Certifications
This program is 8 hours in length and delivered over 1 full day. Graduated students will get International CPR Certification, Wilderness Protocol Certification and Wilderness First-aid Certification signed by WMAI.


Recertification

Workshop certification includes International CPR, is valid for 3 years. Students can re-certificate the Workshop by attending the course again. Or they can choose to attend the standardized courses of WMAI (WFA, WAFA, WFR etc.) Graduates from these courses will get an upgraded certification, which has CPR Certification and more skills.


Books

Students don’t need to pay extra for the book, they will get the following books at the beginning of the course:

  • Fold out guide;
  • SOAP Notebook;

Equipment

The Sponsor/Organizer needs to provide relevant equipment for students at remote/extreme environment. WMAI will provide a gear list we need for drills and lecture.


Assessment

In order to pass the Workshop, students will need a 100% attendance, and their performance during practice needs to be satisfying.


Prerequisites and Eligibility

Must be at least 10 years of age to participate in this course. Learners who are 10 to 17 years old must have written proof of parental consent.
